Conference schedule
Didactics
Our innovative, case-based structured Wednesday afternoon didactics are dynamic and interactive, centered around a mystery case.
In small groups, the residents work for a finite time to develop a differential diagnosis and an ultimate diagnosis and care plan. The afternoon continues with a short, faculty-presented wrap-up lecture of the topic that includes board review questions.
There are also weekly workshops that might be a hands-on family medicine procedure or sports medicine / wilderness medicine topic.
The final hour contains a variety of topics.
The focus is on core medicine topics and subjects related to the ABFM Board exam and ACGME core competencies, including general medicine, pediatrics, sports medicine, wilderness medicine, obstetrics and specialty topics. The conferences are presented by both core faculty and outside community partners.
Conferences and Lectures
- Journal Club is held once a month, led by residents, and is an evidence-based review of the current literature
- Cultural Competency Lectures led by a resident are held once a month. This gives the resident an opportunity to research and discuss a topic of interest to them
- Quality Improvement, Safety, Morbidity and Mortality, and Practice Management Conferences are held regularly as well.
- Balint conferences are held monthly. These conferences facilitate physician communication. It engages all three resident classes simultaneously to present clinical cases in order to improve and to better understand clinician-patient relationships while focusing on enhancing the clinician’s ability to connect with and care for patients sustainably.
