Our program was established in 2019 and we graduated our first class of 20 residents in June 2022. We have seen our program grow and develop, and this has been an amazing journey for both our residents and teaching faculty. Our vision for the next 5 years includes developing new fellowship programs, opportunities for advanced degrees with our academic partner, the University of Houston, and dedicated clinical / research pathways of distinction within our residency.

Our program offers a comprehensive curriculum including a didactic curriculum based on the blueprint for the ABIM Certifying Examination and a variety of inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences.

In 2021, we opened a brand-new residents continuity clinic within a 5-minute walk from our hospital. Our ambulatory curriculum uses the Yale Outpatient Modules, Johns’ Hopkins Modules, and NEJM+ curricula during a dedicated educational ½ day per week. We also require residents to complete one project in community outreach during the PGY1 year. Our residency utilizes a 4+1 system, which minimizes disruptions by separating the inpatient from outpatient environments. Our residents on elective rotations (e.g. Nephrology, Cardiology) do not work on weekends.

Being supported by a large enterprise, HCA, the nation’s leading employer of graduate medical education, we have specialized educational programs such as board review, Resident to Faculty Program, Residents as Educators course, and additional perks (iPhone, laptop, meals). Our HCA Kingwood hospital boasts excellence in many service lines. Finally, HCA has a strong commitment to quality and patient safety.

Kingwood is 20 miles north of Houston and has access to recreation (Lake Houston), minutes from a major airport (IAH), and a short drive to a world-class diverse city. The amenities include an incredible restaurant scene, entertainment, and green spaces.

We hope that you consider Kingwood for your internal medicine residency and come train with us!

Sincerely,
