Welcome from our program director

Thank you for your interest in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship program at the HCA Houston Healthcare-Kingwood campus.

This is a three-year fully accredited ACGME program that is designed to graduate fellows who can successfully enter independent practices as well-trained gastroenterologists and serve as leaders in an academic and/or community setting.

Program overview

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship program at the HCA Houston Healthcare-Kingwood/Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at University of Houston will commit to prepare qualified Internal Medicine residents to become fully trained consultative Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists possessing an outstanding fund of knowledge, a well-developed diagnostic acumen, a superb procedural brilliance, and a commitment to deliver compassionate medical care as they develop into prominent clinicians and future leaders in academic medicine or private practice.

During their three years of training, fellows will be taught by highly trained and qualified faculty members who will serve as role-models for them. Fellows will develop an enthusiasm for life-long learning, practice improvement, and professional growth in alignment with the sponsoring institution's mission, “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.”

The HCA Houston Healthcare-Kingwood/University of Houston Gastroenterology Fellowship Program's aims are to:

Create an environment that values scholarship, patient safety, and self-assessment to encourage a commitment to lifelong learning.

Develop and facilitate a comprehensive curriculum to produce highly competent fellows with expertise in providing high-quality, evidenced-based care to gastroenterology and hepatology patients.

Provide fellows with the skills needed to be effective leaders in the treatment of gastroenterology and hepatology patients, in all settings, through the development of interpersonal communication strategies.

Encourage and support faculty development opportunities with the goal of providing excellent role models and mentors to fellows throughout their training.
