Mission Statement
The HCA Houston Healthcare/University of Houston (Kingwood) Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program aims to: 1) Equip the fellows with the essential resources and training to cultivate their leadership skills and enhance their interpersonal and communication skills, when working alongside multidisciplinary teams, promoting a harmonious work environment. 2) Develop and facilitate a comprehensive curriculum to produce highly competent Intensivists who uphold and adhere to a rigorous standard of ethics, caring for patients with compassion. 3) Provide education and mentorship to Critical Care Medicine fellows engaged in research projects focused on enhancing healthcare delivery and patient outcomes in the field of Critical Care Medicine. 4) Advocate for the inclusion of diverse perspectives in daily clinical practice, as well as ensuring equal access to high-quality medical services for every patient. 5) Provide ample well-being resources and support, at both the program and institutional level, prioritizing the mental and physical well-being of the fellows and faculty members.
About our program
The HCA Houston Healthcare/University of Houston (Kingwood) Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program is committed to promoting diversity throughout all individuals participate in the training program, including faculty and administrative personnel among others. By selecting a diverse group of personnel, the program has and will continue to cultivate a learning environment inclusive of varied perspectives and insights.
Prior to commencing the hiring process for any new faculty member or administrative personnel, the Program Director, and others involved in the hiring process, will address the diversity strengths and challenges within the current staff and determine ways to build on the strengths of the program's diversity and address areas of weaknesses. Moreover, job postings will be reviewed and carefully curated to attract more diverse candidates.
The Program Director will assess each candidate's CV, prioritizing diversity as a criterion for selection. During candidate interviews, the Program Director will place particular emphasis on diversity. The program operates in compliance with the Sponsoring Institution's nondiscrimination clause which states the following: "We comply with applicable federal civil rights laws and do not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, disability, race, color, ancestry, citizenship, religion, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, medical condition, marital status, veteran status, payment source or ability, or any other basis prohibited by federal, state, or local law."
On an annual basis, the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) will perform an annual evaluation of the program, this includes a review of administrative personnel diversity data and its efforts in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The PEC will create an action plan to improve any identified deficiencies.
