Katharine Burmaster, MD

Program Director

Dr. Burmaster is a graduate of Harvard University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in neuropsychology with a minor in health policy and was a member of the varsity women’s crew team. Dr. Burmaster then earned a Master of Science at University of California Berkeley, where she founded a free LGBTQ community health clinic. From there, she earned her medical doctorate at University of California San Francisco and completed her internal medicine residency training at Legacy Health in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Burmaster has conducted research and published her findings on the health impacts of earning a living wage including effects on cardiovascular disease, depression, and social status. She has travelled to India to study the prevalence of depression and anxiety in low-income communities, where she also taught English and computer literacy to children. Dr. Burmaster enjoys riding her motorcycle, making furniture, and playing with her dog.


Kashyap Patel, MD

Associate Program Director

Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from B.J. Medical College and Civic Hospital in Ahmedabad, India. He completed internship and residency at Jamaica Hospital in New York. He has mentored multiple medical students and residents through research projects and quality improvement projects. Dr. Patel enjoys traveling with his family and spending time on the golf course.


Gretchen Junko, DO

Associate Program Director

Dr. Junko earned her medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine- Carolinas Campus. Following graduation from medical school, Dr. Junko completed postgraduate residency training at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina SOM Greenville. She enjoys mentoring both medical students and residents. Dr. Junko was named Attending of the Year in 2020-2021, 2021-2022. Dr. Junko enjoys traveling with family, and has an interest in staying physically active and physician well-being.


Nelson Greene, MD

Dr. Greene completed a residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. He is board-certified in critical care medicine and pulmonology.

Prospero Cortorreal, MD

Dr. Cortorreal received his medical degree from National University Pedro Henriquez in the Dominican Republic before completing his residency training at Deaconess Hospital in St Louis, Missouri.
