Welcome from our Program Director

I would like to personally welcome you to the Riverside Community Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program! We are focused on recruiting those interested in helping us continue to build our successful program. Our curriculum is built around improving the health of the underserved population in the Inland Empire of Southern California. Our experienced academic faculty are actively expanding primary care in our community in partnership with our residents.

About our program

Mission: To Train Physician Leaders in a Culture of Resilience, Compassion, and Diversity While Promoting Personal and Professional Growth

Vision: To Develop Innovative, Academic, Community Based Physician Leaders in Medicine

HCA Healthcare Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program is a community-based program focused on recruiting and training physician leaders. With its inaugural class starting in 2017, our program was developed around improving the health of the underserved population in the Inland Empire of Southern California. We focus on diversity to reflect our diverse population made up of Latino, Middle Eastern, Vietnamese, and refugee patients to name a few. Our experienced faculty are passionate about serving our community and inspiring our residents to pursue a career in working with marginalized populations. Our program is dedicated to creating a safe and comfortable learning environment, focusing on team building and creating lifelong relationships with colleagues.

The program is based out of Riverside Community Hospital, located in downtown Riverside. The hospital is a staple of the community and has been serving the Inland Empire region since 1901. The hospital provides a strong educational experience as it houses a level 1 trauma center, level III NICU, and HeartCare institute and is a designated comprehensive stroke center and STEMI receiving center. Graduate Medical Education (GME) oversees nine residency programs and two fellowships, which allows our residents to collaborate with their peers in a friendly and supportive learning environment.

Our residency continuity clinics are based in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), which provides residents an opportunity to provide high-quality, cost-effective care within a high-functioning patient-centered clinic. Our curriculum is based on the clinic-first model, which prioritizes continuity and the primary care experience during resident training. This model mimics the work-life of a primary care physician allowing residents to experience the essential elements of high-functioning primary care. In addition, our continuity clinic is diverse within faculty experienced in chronic disease management, reproductive health care, obstetrics, pediatrics, HIV/Hep C care, gender affirming care, addiction medicine, office-based procedures, and POCUS.
