Welcome from our Program Director
The HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital Psychiatry Residency is a four-year program that provides residents with progressive experiences. We expose our residents to a range of services and settings to prepare them for careers in a variety of practice types as well as preparation and training for board certification.
Mission Statement
The HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital Psychiatry Residency program's mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders.
As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the resident's clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents’ perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values and ideals.
Program Overview
The HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital Psychiatry Program is a four-year program designed to provide remarkably diverse clinical exposure, including patients from rural, small town, suburban and urban core city environments.
HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital also serves veterans and the military environment due to its proximity to the Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS JAX) airbase in Jacksonville, Florida. We also serve regional patients from Georgia and the Carolinas.
The range of psychiatric disorders our residents see is equally diverse: prodromal and first-episode psychoses, chronic/acute schizophrenia, affective disorders (especially mania, BPII depression, and unipolar depressive disorders), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and comorbid alcohol and substance use disorders in patients from varied backgrounds, ages 18 to over 100 years old.
Multiple private and public settings in the Jacksonville area serve as inpatient and outpatient rotation sites, including geriatric psychiatry, forensics, community, addictions and child psychiatry.

Conference schedule
Didactics are designed to meet the needs of residents interested in providing evidence-based care that is personalized for the patient and informed by the biopsychosocial model, using combined treatment modalities including psychotherapy, psychotropic medications and social and systems interventions.
Required research projects and presentations round out the educational experience with residents encouraged to present at both internal research day activities as well as regional and state-wide psychiatric meetings, the American Psychiatric Association or national specialty meetings as dictated by the needs and interests of the resident.
Institutional review board or quality committee submissions and publications are closely mentored. Individual and group supervision is provided by multiple members of our diverse and talented faculty.
