The Orange Park Hospital (OPH) GME Psychiatry Program is an ACGME-accredited four-year program with 16 positions. Our program has worked hard to create and maintain a diverse and culturally sensitive training environment since its inception in 2017.
Our training program provides residents with progressive experiences across a range of services and sites to prepare them for board certification, fellowship training, and careers in a broad variety of practice settings, including inpatient, outpatient, consult liaison, intensive outpatient and partial hospital, and community psychiatry.
Residents develop strong skills in patient evaluation, case formulation and differential diagnosis, and learn to provide individualized treatment using a life cycle-informed biopsychosocial approach. Clinical care is guided by compassion and respect with principles of patient safety and quality of care prioritized through working together in multi-disciplinary resource-based teams.
Our dedicated faculty, many with fellowship or subspecialty training, provide personalized supervision. Residents are taught to perform ECT, TMS, and emergency psychopharmacology, and also participate in forensic experiences. All residents complete data-driven projects, which can include quality improvement, database analysis, clinical research, surveys, or educational training. With these and other scholarly activities, such as presentations at regional and national meetings, and scientific publications, are supported through dedicated research staff.
Residents master the six core competencies through comprehensive didactics, clinical rotations, and oral and written evaluations. They become advocates for patient care through clinical knowledge and life-long practice-based learning and improvement.
Psychiatry residents work with other ACGME-accredited programs at OPH, including family medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, dermatology, general surgery, and palliative care. Additional skills in teaching and professionalism are gained through these relationships as well as through work with third- and fourth-year medical students and through advocacy in the community and through professional societies.
